What We Want Our Callers To Know

Since October 2015 we have received 4,862 incoming calls from victims. Not from one specific part of the state, not from one specific gender or ethnicity and not from one specific age group. Violence affects low and high income, all gender identities and ethnicities as well as the young and the old. Violence knows no boundaries. As advocates answering your phone call we want you to know the following things:

  • We think you are brave for dialing our phone number. It takes a lot of strength to take that first step.

  • We want to help you.

  • Your priority is our priority. You are the expert of your own life. We will not convince you to make decisions you are not ready or comfortable to make. You are in control of the conversation.

  • We are not judging you for the situation you are in. Whether you are 26 years old or 76 years old, you deserve a life free of violence. Whether you make $100,000 a year or $15,000 a year, you deserve a life free of violence. Whether you identify as a female or male, you deserve a life free of violence. Everyone deserves to live a life free of violence.

  • We hear you when you say leaving the situation is not the safest option for you. We hear you when you say you still love the person who is inflicting the pain. We hear you when you say you want to go back.

  • Even though you may feel at your weakest, we see you as a strong survivor.

If you are thinking about reaching out, please know there is a compassionate ear on the other end that will walk your journey with you.
