SAKI, or Sexual Assault Kit Initiative, is a nationwide plan to deal with all the untested sexual assault kits (SAKs). Unfortunately, after an assault, not every kit is tested by law enforcement. Due to a variety of factors, many sit for years without any attention. In 2015, Iowa was given $3 million through federal grants to test many of these kits. We understand it is difficult to wait on something as sensitive as a sexual assault kit. Our advocates are available if you need to talk. They can also answer any questions about SAKI, the testing, or the notification process.
